Follow these 4 Steps to Breastfeed Twins

Do you find it difficult to breastfeed the twins at the same time? Calm down, bud. If you already know the trick, breastfeeding the Twins can be easy and comfortable, really! At the beginning of breastfeeding, mothers are advised to breastfeed the twins one by one. The goal was to see if they were able to suckle directly from the breast, for how long, and how often they suckled. If you already know the "rhythm", you are free to choose to breastfeed the twins simultaneously or one by one.

How to Breastfeed Twins Simultaneously

Some mothers feel that breastfeeding twins at the same time will be more time-saving and efficient. Even so, breastfeeding two babies at once is not an easy thing, especially if you are not used to it. Here are some ways and positions that you can try to breastfeed twins:

1. Cross position (double-cradle hold)

In a sitting position, weigh the twins in your mother's right and left hands. Then, position the two pairs of legs of the twins overlapping in front of the mother's body. Make sure the twins' heads are parallel to your breasts and can reach your nipples.

2. The position is like squeezing 2 bags in the armpit (double-clutch)

On the sofa or bed, place pillows on both sides of your body, then place the twins on the pillow with their heads in front of your breasts, while their legs are on your waist and past your armpits. Then, gently squeeze their bodies using their elbows as if they were pressing a party bag in their armpits. Place your palms behind each baby's head to support and keep their heads in line with the nipples.

3. Combination position (cradle-clutch)

This position is a combination of the two positions above. One of the babies was cradled in the armpit, and the other was positioned in the lap.

4. Using a special breastfeeding pillow for twins

To make things easier, you can do the above methods using a special pillow for breastfeeding twins. If you don't have this pillow, you can work around this by rolling a towel or blanket as support. With the support of this pillow, your mother's movements will be more flexible and easier when breastfeeding.

Make sure your baby feeds on a different breast each day. For example, today the older brother is feeding on the right breast and the younger brother is feeding on the left breast, then the next day, the older brother is feeding on the left breast and the younger brother is feeding on the right breast.

This is important so that the body produces the same amount of milk in both breasts and reduces the risk of blockage of the milk ducts, especially if one baby is suckling more than the other. In addition, by changing the baby's sight every feeding, his eyes will be trained and stimulated more often.

Don't be afraid of lack of breast milk

In principle, breastfeeding twins on an ongoing basis is very possible to do. Mothers don't need to worry about lack of breast milk, because the amount of milk produced will be in accordance with the "demand" of the baby. The more often your baby feeds, the more milk you will produce. Breastfeeding two babies at once is a challenge in itself. In addition to position problems, breastfeeding twins can also make you tired and experience nipple pain or swelling.

If you really need a break, don't hesitate to ask for help from your husband or other family members to take care of the twins or take care of household chores. And if you still find it difficult to breastfeed the twins, try to consult a pediatrician or a lactation consultant.
