Gonorrhea Symptoms

Gonorrhea generally causes symptoms in the genital organs. As previously stated, the symptoms of gonorrhea experienced by men are different from those of women. And keep in mind, gonorrhea often causes no symptoms in women.

Symptoms of gonorrhea in men include:

• Pus on the tip of the penis
• Pain when urinating
• Swelling and pain in one testicle
• The tip of the penis is red and swollen.

Symptoms of gonorrhea in women include:

• Pain when urinating or during intercourse.
• Increased frequency of urination.
• Abdominal and pelvic pain.
• vaginal discharge.
• Bleeding from the vagina after sexual intercourse
• Bleeding from the vagina when not menstruating
• Menstruation that is heavier or longer than usual.

Gonorrhea can also occur in organs other than the genitals. Each organ affected by gonorrhea will cause different symptoms, such as:

• Gonorrhea in the anus, symptoms of anal itching, bleeding or pus from the anus.
• Gonorrhea in the joints, symptoms of arthritis, namely redness, swelling, and pain when moved.
• Gonorrhea in the throat, characterized by a sore throat that is difficult to heal and the appearance of a lump in the neck (swollen lymph nodes).
• Gonorrhea in the eye, symptoms include red eyes, discharge of pus from the eye, and being sensitive to light.

Gonorrhea can also occur in infants due to infection from the mother during the normal delivery process (through the birth canal). In newborns, gonorrhea can cause the baby's eyes to become red, swollen, and ooze pus. These symptoms will appear in the first two weeks after birth.
